The Great Adventure

Edit: Looks like I’m having trouble getting stuff to Posterous, so I’m going to figure something out tonight. Tumblr will likely be the alternative.
If you’ve been following me on Twitter or Facebook recently, you’re already well aware of the fact that I’ve finally been offered, and have accepted, a job with Rory Reid’s gubernatorial campaign [...]

TNGG – The Apple iPad

You know it’s hard to keep this blog up to date when every time I have something to write about, The Next Great Generation seems to get first dibs. After the Apple iPad announcement, I was all set to write something up on it here, when I got an email looking for comment for TNGG. [...]

WordCamp Boston 2010

I had a wonderful time yesterday at WordCamp Boston 2010. The conference was held at Microsoft’s beautiful new New England Research and Design (NERD) center in Cambridge. I’ve got a few pics of the building and the view from the upper floors posted below.
I’ve been a big proponent of Wordpress, using it for this site [...]

CES Coverage for TNGG

As the new decade rolled around, I spent several days out in fabulous Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show. CES is a huge event where 120,000 attendees converge on the Las Vegas Convention Center to see the latest and greatest techno-wizardry. It was an amazing spectacle and, although exhausting, a heck of a lot [...]

New Website!

Welcome to MattCad.com, my new blog/portfolio/whatever site. I hope you enjoy the new design. It’s a major redesign relatively early in the life of the site, so I figured I’d explain why it was time for a change.
In January of 2009 I launched an eponymous website to help with my job search. It was designed [...]

A Christmas Caroling

Every Christmas my mother leads a troupe of local families caroling around town. They visit the homes of the oldest people in town – especially those who live alone – to bring some Christmas cheer. I decided to bring along my camera and an audio recorder this year and put together an audio slideshow. This [...]

Google Countdown?

UPDATE (1/1/10): As suspected, the Google Countdown has expired with the passing of 2009. But the Easter egg hasn’t disappeared completely. Now, a click on “I’m Feeling Lucky” sets off a cascade of multi-colored asterisk-fireworks, accompanied by “Happy New Year” text. There’s a screen shot after the break.

Deadline Writer

One of the biggest challenges for me as a blogger is writing without a deadline. I’ve always been fond of deadlines as they serve to sharpen my constantly wandering attention span. Without a deadline, it’s hard for me to finish a thought, much less pen a coherently structured article. Luckily I know this about myself [...]

The Mac Pro and eSata

The Mac Pro is really the only upgradeable machine Apple builds, and it is endowed with such incredible specs that its rare that anyone ever has to open one up. Yet for some reason Apple installed two eSata ports deep in the bowels of the Mac Pro, unreachable without some kind of extension cable. A cable I just helped install in a friend's computer.

TNGG Article – Job Search 2.0

An article I just wrote about my ongoing job search – including a lot of talk about this very website – has been published in The Next Great Generation. Give it a read and tell me what you think, either in the comments there or right here.
